Margarita is best explored by car: beaches minutes apart, viewpoints along the way and the freedom to stop wherever you like. These are the 7 beaches we recommend to our customers, in the order that makes the most of the day.

1. Playa El Agua

The most famous beach on the island: kilometres of sand, palm trees and a strip of restaurants and services. Ideal for the first day, with parking at the main entrance.

2. Playa El Yaque

A bay right next to Santiago Mariño airport. Its constant winds make it one of the world’s windsurf and kitesurf spots — and the sunset is spectacular from the beach.

3. Playa Parguito

Next to El Agua, with livelier waves: the favourite of those after shore-break surf or simply more movement in the water.

4. Playa Manzanillo

Calm waters and a family atmosphere, perfect with kids or for a fresh fish lunch by the shore.

5. La Restinga

Not an open beach: it is a national park of mangroves. You cross by boat to a deserted, crystal-clear beach. Getting there by car via the Punta de Piedras road is easy.

6. Juan Griego

A legendary sunset from the Fortín de la Galera: history and sunset combined in a single afternoon, with the bay of Juan Griego as the perfect backdrop.

7. Isla de Coche

An escape 20 minutes away by ferry from Punta de Piedras. With two days to spare it is fully worth it; the car can stay parked at the terminal.

Frequently asked questions

What is the most famous beach in Margarita?
Playa El Agua: kilometres of sand, palm trees and full services with restaurants and parking. It is the classic first-day stop.
Can I drive to the beaches?
Yes. The northeast beach route follows paved roads, and with a rental car you gain the freedom to stop at the viewpoints that public transport skips.
Is there parking at the beaches in Margarita?
Yes, the main beaches (El Agua, El Yaque, Parguito) have low-cost local parking with attendants, especially during the season.
Do I need an SUV to reach the beaches?
Not for the main beaches: an economy car gets there fine. A small SUV like the Jimny only makes sense if you want dirt-road access to wilder spots.
